The release of Tamil actor Kamal Haasan's new film Thuglife has evoked strong protests in Karnataka after his controversial language remarks. During the hearing in the High Court today (June 3), Kamal Haasan's lawyer informed that "the producers have decided not to release Thuglife in Karnataka".

Kamal Haasan's decision not to apologise for his comments on Kannada language has created a lot of anger in the film industry. The High Court also came down heavily on Haasan, saying it was "not fair to make a mistake, justify it and ask for security". Nagaprasanna said.

Kamal Haasan, in a letter to the Film Chamber, also described it as "one family" without an apology. But the court concluded, "All this requires a single word line – apology!"

According to the high court's words, it is clear that Kamal Haasan is reluctant to apologise because of his self-respect. The court, however, said it was the duty of everyone to ensure that "language and culture are not insulted".

Thus, there is very little chance that 'Thuglife' will be released in Karnataka. Now the filmmakers are ready for discussions with the film chamber. The next hearing is scheduled for July 10.
