On June 11, 2024, the news of veteran Kannada actor Darshan being arrested in connection with the murder of Renuka swamy came as a shock. Initially, it seemed like fake news, but within a few hours it was confirmed to be true. Darshan, who was shooting for 'Devil' in Mysuru, was arrested by the police around 8 am. Pavithra Gowda has been named as the first accused (A1) and Darshan as the second accused (A2) in the case. On the same day, 13 people were arrested; Later, 4 more people were arrested and a total of 17 accused were brought to justice by the police.

According to the allegations, Renukaswamy of Chitradurga, who had harassed Pavithra Gowda, was called to Bengaluru, murdered in pattanagere shed and her body dumped near Mori. Though some of darshan's gang members surrendered at first, it was only when the stories of vikalpa cropped up in the investigation that the police conducted an in-depth inquiry and found darshan's name. Darshan, who was initially lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail, was later shifted to Ballari jail. On December 13, darshan and seven other accused were granted bail. As of today, all the 17 accused are out on bail. However, in the meantime, the bail of the seven accused has been challenged in the Supreme Court.

It is also noteworthy that the trial has not yet begun. The fact that the justice process has not moved forward even after a year has led to a much-debated debate among the public.
