On the night of June 14, a major accident took place in the backwaters of Mani reservoir in Shivamogga while shooting for 'Kanthara: Chapter 1'. Actor-director Rishabh Shetty and more than 30 artistes were forced to drown in the water after the boat capsized. But, fortunately, as the depth of the water was low, the group and all of them swam to the shore and stayed safe.

The incident seems to be another serious warning to the 'Kanthara' team. In many ways, machinery was also damaged in the water. According to local artists, Shetty took up the rituals in the belief that "ghost-gods do not allow business", in the backdrop of the story, which takes the ghosts and deities of ancient times as the basis.

In the first May, junior artiste MF Kapil drowned in a waterfall near Kollur. An FIR has been registered against him and AICWA has also fought.

This convergence was a boat accident – although there was no physical damage in the situation, there was psychological disaster and economic damage. The team has now been demanding that the security measures be stepped up on the set and an investigation has been launched at the police station. The team has kept a secret what happened after the boat capsized. It has also given strict instructions to any of the crew members and co-artists not to share any information about the incident.
