Karnataka Ratna posthumously awarded to B. Sarojadevi, the immortal star of Kannada cinema – a big decision by the state government!


The state cabinet has taken an important decision. The Karnataka Cabinet on Wednesday approved the conferring of the Karnataka Ratna award on Kannada actress B Saroja Devi.
Recently, B. Saroja Devi passed away in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru. Later, he was cremated at his native village Dasavara village in Channapatna taluk. Fans, film personalities and political leaders were emotional as his demise is an irreparable loss to the Kannada film industry.
The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday approved the conferment of Karnataka Ratna on Saroja Devi. In the same meeting, the government also decided to confer the Karnataka Ratna on Sahasasimha Vishnuvardhan posthumously.
B. Saroja Devi is one of the biggest icons of Kannada cinema. Apart from Kannada, he also acted in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam films.
Many Kannada celebrities and fans had demanded that the state government be given the Karnataka Ratna in recognition of his acting achievements and contributions to the film industry. Eventually, the government granted the request.
B. Saroja Devi is the heroine of many permanent Kannada films. He has worked with legends like Rajkumar, NTR, MGR and Sivaji Ganesan. The success he has achieved, the glory he has brought to the Kannada film industry, and the cheer he has brought to the Indian film industry, all these have earned him immense respect.
It is a matter of pride for the fans and the Kannada film industry that the late B Saroja Devi has been awarded the Karnataka Ratna posthumously. It is indeed a memorable moment that this great actress who carried the golden age of Kannada has been honoured with the highest honour of the state.
