Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede tragedy: FIR filed against RCB, KSCA

Royal Challengers Bangalore's historic win in IPL 2024 turned into an accident in no time. At least 11 people lost their lives in a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the victory celebrations. An FIR has been registered against rcb franchise, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and event management firm DNA in the case.
In the wake of the controversy arising out of the transition from UDR to FIR, the police have now converted the UDR (Unnatural Death Report), which was earlier registered, into an FIR. The FIR, registered at cubbon park police station, has been registered under sections 105, 106, 118(1), 118(2), 190, 132, 125A, 125(B) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS).
The three main factors that raised doubts were
the non-making of KSCA primarily responsible. The RCB victory parade was announced without the permission of the police.
These issues are due to the intense response of journalism, public pressure and social media to the revelations. As news of the free entry to the 'Victory Celebration' event, which was scheduled to be held on June 4, spread on social media, lakhs of fans flocked to the stadium. As soon as the gate was opened near gate number 12, there was a huge rush and many people collapsed due to difficulty in breathing. Though they were admitted to the hospital on the spot and later, the lives of 11 people were not saved. The public is of the opinion that the lack of proper planning of the organisation and the lack of control of large crowds could have been the direct cause of the tragedy. The case is now expected to reach a tribunal.
