Yakshagana to the silver screen: A different experiment from Ravi Basrur with ‘Veera Chandrahasa’ – a new chapter in Sandalwood! For the first time in the history of world cinema, Ravi Basrur has brought Yakshagana, a symbol of the cultural heritage of the coastal region, to the silver screen through the film Veera Chandrahasa. The film, which was released in Bengaluru on April 18, has received a good response and is now being released in a phased manner in the coastal areas as well. He has tried to capture Yakshagana in a true style and introduce the importance of art on a global scale. More than 900 Yakshagana artistes participated in the film. Shivarajkumar will be seen in a special role. Patla Satish Shetty and Raghavendra Jansale have sung as Bhagavati in the film, which has been beautifully portrayed without damaging the nature of Yakshagana. Ravi Basrur has composed the music and Kiran Kumar R is the cinematographer. Veera Chandrahasa is not just an entertaining film but also an important step towards the survival of Yakshagana heritage and introducing art to the next generation.
