Vishnuvardhan's samadhi removed on High Court order: Vishnuvardhan's fans protest in tears

The phoenix bird of Kannada cinema, Dr. Vishnuvardhan – An actor who has acted in more than 200 films for 35 years and left an indelible mark on the hearts of Kannadigas. When he passed away in 2009, he was cremated at abhimana studio premises in Kengeri, Bengaluru. The place later became an emotional pilgrimage centre for Vishnu fans.

However, recently, on the directions of the High Court, vishnu's samadhi at Abhiman Studios was removed overnight. The move has created a lot of anger among Vishnu fans. Fans have expressed their displeasure against the government, the police department and the chamber of commerce.

For many years, fans have been demanding that vishnu samadhi be declared as a memorial and not just the last place but also as a centre of inspiration for Kannada cinema. However, it is regrettable that this could not be done in the wake of the court order and the tomb was cleared.

At present, vishnu memorial has been constructed on 2.75 acres of land in Mysuru. There is a special museum depicting the life journey of Vishnuvardhan.

Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had laid the foundation stone for the memorial on September 15, 2020. Two classrooms and an auditorium have also been constructed.

In the eyes of fans, Vishnu Samadhi is not just a memory – it is a symbol of respect, emotional bonding shown to an artiste. Thus, its clearance has hurt them. Though there is a monument in Mysore, there is no doubt that the removal of the tomb has touched the mind. Vishnuvardhan's film career and the love of his fans are still alive in the memories of Kannadigas. Even if the grave clearance completes a chapter, the legacy of "Sahasasimha" will never fade away.
