Kamal Haasan – ‘Thug Life’ is on OTT: Contract broken, movie released early!

Produced by Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, 'Thug Life' was released on June 5. Despite being in the news initially, the film suffered a huge setback at the box office. Kamal Haasan's comments on language issues led to a ban on the film in Karnataka and the film did not do as well.

Meanwhile, the film was bought by Netflix for a whopping Rs 110 crore. As per the original agreement, the film was supposed to come to OTT only after 8 weeks of its theatrical release. But after the film failed at the box office, Netflix put pressure on the producers to release the film on OTT in advance.

From July 3, 'ThugLife' will be available on Netflix in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam. Apart from Kamal Haasan, the film also stars Simbu, Trisha Krishnan, Nasser and Mahesh Manjrekar. The film is directed by Mani Ratnam and the music is by AR Rahman.

Starting with neyattam (ghee abhishekam), the film was supposed to grab the attention of the audience with a unique background. But the expectation was not fulfilled. Since the film didn't get much publicity even on OTT, it was released very quietly.
