“Kannada was born from Tamil” – Kamal Haasan’s statement causes outrage among Kannadigas

Bollywood and South Indian versatile actor Kamal Haasan's recent statement has created a huge outcry among Kannadigas. The actor, who was in Bengaluru for the audio launch of 'Thug Life', has drawn a lot of criticism on social media for his controversial remarks on Kannada. Kamal Haasan's statement that "Kannada language is a language derived from Tamil" has come in front of kannada actor Shivarajkumar, who was present at the event, has resulted in a wave of opposition among Kannadigas. Considering this statement as insulting, many are expressing their anger.

Kannadigas are emphasizing the antiquity of their language through documents. Documenting the features of the old Kannada inscriptions, literary liness, and language style, he has been expressing strong reactions on social media that "Kannada is an independent language and older than Tamil". Shivarajkumar attended the event in a respectful manner and dedicated a special song to Kamal Haasan. Kamal had also jokingly called Shivanna an "uncle". However, fans feel that his statement on the language has damaged this honour.

"Thuglife" is slated to release on June 5, 2025, and is directed by Mani Ratnam and directed by AR Rahman. Rahman's music has created a lot of expectations. But kamal haasan's statement has become more of a topic of discussion than the film.
