Actress Ranya Rao fined Rs 102.55 crore; Ranya Rao still hasn't found peace

Kannada actress Ranya Rao has been booked in connection with the illegal gold smuggling case. An investigation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has confirmed that they had illegally transported 127.3 kg of gold.

Following this, the DRI officials completed the adjudication proceedings against Ranya Rao and recovered a sum of Rs 102.55 crore. A notice has been issued to pay the fine. A warning has also been issued that properties will be confiscated if the fine is not paid. On March 4, DRI officials had seized the gold and arrested Ranya Rao. As per the law, it is mandatory for DRI to seize smuggled goods within 6 months. The notices were handed over to four accused, including Ranya Rao, who went to jail today (September 3) in connection with the case.

Not only Ranya Rao, but other accused in the case have also been fined: A2 accused Tarun Konduru Raju – 67.6 kg gold smuggling, Penalty: Rs 62 crore Bharat Jain and Sahil Jain – 63.61 kg gold smuggling each, fine: Rs 53 crore. Along with the notices issued to the accused, 2,500 pages of documents have also been handed over. With this, the criminal case is also continuing and the hearing of the kafiposa petition in the high court has been postponed to September 11.

The case has also created a big buzz in the Kannada film industry. With fines and criminal proceedings being initiated against the accused, including actress Ranya Rao, the case is likely to take the case by storm in the coming days.
