"Mother has health problems - Darshan should not be shifted to Bellary jail!" Lawyers' appeal

Actor Darshan and several other accused in the Renukaswamy murder case in Chitradurga are lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail. Recently, an application was filed on behalf of the SPP Special Public Prosecutor seeking transfer of Darshan and other accused in the case to Ballari jail. However, Darshan's lawyer has strongly objected to the move.

• Family problem: Darshan's mother is unwell. The lawyers have requested that it will be difficult for the mother to meet her son if the Ballari jail is shifted.
• Lawyer's visit issue: The trial in the case will start soon. It has been argued that if shifted to Ballari, it will be impossible to attend the hearing every time and allow lawyers to meet them.
• Lack of jail facilities: Darshan is not getting the facilities as per rules in Parappana Agrahara itself. There is an opportunity to get clothes, bedding, pillows at one's own expense but it is not being given. Now the lawyers have cited the problem of shortage of bedsheets in winter.

On behalf of the prosecution, darshan and five others have demanded that they be shifted to another jail. This, they argue, will facilitate investigation and case management. During the hearing, Darshan's lawyer sought more time to argue the case. The court will take a final decision on the Ballari shift.

All in all, the issue of Darshan's Ballari jail shift has led to a heated debate between the family, health and legal processes. The court's decision will show the way forward.
