Gold smuggling case: ₹34 crore worth of assets belonging to actress Ranya Rao seized

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth Rs 34.12 crore belonging to actress Ranya Rao, who is in judicial custody in Parappana Agrahara jail in a gold smuggling case. These properties include a luxury house in Victoria Layout in Bengaluru, a plot in Arkavathi Layout, industrial land in Tumakuru and agricultural land in Anekal taluk.
Ranya was arrested at the Kempegowda Airport on March 3 while she was returning from Dubai. 14.2 kg worth Rs 12.56 crore was seized from them. The gold was seized. Raju and Sahil Jain are co-accused in the case.
According to the ED investigation, Ranya is an important part of the smuggling network and the money earned from the smuggling was invested in the form of assets. The property was attached after checking bank accounts and investments. The CBI and DRI have also cooperated with the investigation.
